Are you ready for a new holiday year? Step-by-step checklist for a correct start in Zenegy Payroll
4 min read

When we reach 1 September 2025, a new holiday year starts under the Danish Holiday Act. That means new days of holiday for employees – but also that you, as an employer, must make sure everything is set up correctly in Zenegy, so holiday balances, transfers and payroll run without problems.
Here's an overview of what to pay particular attention to.
New holiday year and earning days of holiday
From 1 September, a new accrual period starts, and all employees begin to earn 2.08 days of holiday per month – 25 days of holiday in total in the holiday year 2025/2026. Zenegy calculates the accrual automatically, but you should check that your holiday policy, contracts and any special agreements are set up correctly, so everything follows the company's rules.
Handling untaken days of holiday from 2024/2025
At the changeover to the new holiday year, employees may have untaken days of holiday from the holiday year 2024/2025. These days must be taken by 31 December 2025 at the latest, but do not need to be transferred or paid out before you reach January 2026.
In Zenegy, it's important to make sure these days show correctly in the employees' holiday balances, so they can plan and use the days before the deadline.
Extra hours off and extra days off
Extra days off or extra hours off are allocated automatically to employees in January, May or September, depending on what the company has chosen. For most companies, the allocation happens in September, and it's handled fully automatically in Zenegy – provided it's set up correctly in the company's basic information and via the global values.
So it's important to make sure the setup has been checked before 1 September, so the allocation happens without manual adjustments.

Reconciling holiday balances before the first pay run
Before you run the first payroll in September, it's important to reconcile all holiday balances:
- Do the days of holiday earned and taken add up as at 31 August?
- Are any untaken days registered correctly?
- Have corrections for sickness, parental leave or similar from the past holiday year been updated?
A correct reconciliation saves you both time and corrections later in the year.
Get on top of it all – easily
Zenegy helps automate much of the work, but it requires things to be set up correctly from the start. To make sure you don't miss anything, we've made a checklist for you, so you're completely ready for the new holiday year:

3 Extra hours off and extra days off
- Check that the setup for extra days off/extra hours off is correct in basic information and global values.
- Make sure the automatic allocation happens on time (typically 1 September for most companies).
4 Reconciling holiday balances before the September payroll
- Reconcile the days of holiday earned and taken as at 31 August for all employees.
- Register any corrections (e.g. sickness, parental leave).
- Make sure all balances add up, so the September payroll can be run without errors.
5 Communicating with employees
- Inform them about:

- That new days of holiday are earned continuously from 1 September.
- Any changes to the holiday policy or the extra days off schemes.
