Extra days off – not part of the new Holiday Act

3 min read

The new Danish Holiday Act covers the employee's holiday of 25 days a year, or 5 weeks of holiday. Under special agreements and collective agreements, some companies have extra days off, or care days – these are days of holiday on top of the statutory 5 weeks, also called the 6th holiday week.

Although extra days off aren't covered by the new Holiday Act's rules, many choose to move the current holiday period to the new holiday period (from 1 September to 31 August) for practical reasons. If you're covered by collective agreements or local agreements, the decision on accruing and taking extra days off may have been made there.

Extra days off – calendar year, old holiday year or new holiday year?

In Zenegy, companies will be able to manage the settings for extra days off and care days, and choose whether the days follow the allocation period of a) the calendar year, b) the old holiday year (from 1 May to 30 April) or c) the new holiday year (from 1 September to 31 August).

Find your company's current setting for extra days off and care days under My company > Salary and bank.

This is also where you can change your current setting to a new one, for example choosing to follow the period of the new holiday year.

If you don't want to change the company's current setting for extra days off and care days, you don't need to do anything. Your current settings apply until you choose otherwise.

If extra days off are to follow the new holiday year

It can be practical to change the period for allocating extra days off from the old holiday year to the new holiday year. There may, however, be special rules and local agreements on this, and it's important to note that if you have employees with a collective agreement and extra days off, you need to check the announcement on extra days off yourself.

If you want to change the allocation of extra days off from one period to another, you need both to change the settings for extra days off as described above and to allocate extra days off to the employees for the transition from the current holiday period to the new one.

How to make the change quickly in the system

Once you've worked out the number of extra days off the employees are to be allocated for the next period, you can easily set it up for all employees at once.

Go to My company > Global values > Create.

Fill in Name, ID, Type > Extra days off, and Number of days to be allocated to employees.

Select all the employees in the company who are to be allocated extra days off, or just some departments, and click Save.

The global value for extra days off has now been added to the employees' salary profiles and will apply from the start of the next allocation period chosen. You can also see it under the employee's salary profile > Holiday and care days.
