It is important to be able to grow with your payroll system

There is a lot to consider when you choose a payroll system: user-friendliness, functionality, security, support, price and more. But do you also remember to consider whether the system can keep up with the development and growth of your company?

You may have found a good system for handling the 10 employees you have today – and have to pay. But consider whether it will also be ideal when the company has grown to 20 employees and perhaps employs both hourly paid and salaried employees. This is where you need to make sure you can grow with your payroll system. And what does that mean?

The system must make it possible to set up a structure with departments and an approval flow, so the business owner can delegate the ongoing approval of payroll data to department managers. It must also be possible to give employees different roles in the system, depending on what they need to be able to do in it. A secretary might need access to approve holiday and absence, but not be able to see each employee's salary.

When a company grows, it often means there is also a need to hire a wider range of types of employee, who may be covered by different collective agreements. That is why the system must have flexibility built into its pay and absence types, so it can be adapted to each company's needs.

It is also important that it can integrate with other systems, so automation can be created between the different systems. Perhaps you will also need to hire foreign employees who don't understand Danish – and can the system then produce payslips in English?

Checklist – this is what your payroll system must be able to do, so you can grow with it:
– Division into departments and approval flow
– Roles with different access to the system
– Flexibility in pay and absence types
– Integration
– Language
